DIY: Mini Polaroids

A few weeks ago, Sarah and I attended the "Make It" craft show at the Enjoy Centre where we became inspired to do more handmade projects. With Mother's day in mind I looked to Pinterest to find inspiration. I discovered this idea of making mini Polaroid magnets. This is one of the simplest projects to do, but I did spend a lot of time being nostalgic over old photos and tracking down where they could possibly be saved!

These are the materials you will need:

This would make a great Mother's day gift if you're the sentimental kind... or for a BFF, boyfriend, or even yourself :)

Spring Skirts

Lately, it seems like spring has completely bypassed us, the heat beckoning us to rustle up those playful skirts from the closet. (Unless you're like Ann who will wear skirts throughout the winter.) But with Alberta's notorious history for drastic weather changes, it's good to have layers on hand just to be prepared. Today's post is just a few of many options for styling skirts of different lengths with Stephanie in a mini, Sarah in one that is knee-length, and Ann sporting a midi.

Skater

Worn as an everyday essential or to bring a feminine flair, this style of skirt is ultimately versatile for everyone. Pair this skirt with tights on cooler days, or rock a pair of sneakers and a t-shirt for a casual street wear look. Featuring a fitted waistband and flared hem, this mini style brings length to the legs - perfect for those of us who are vertically challenged!

Vintage

It's easy to achieve a demure, vintage vibe with a full midi skirt and a cardigan over top of a blouse. You can actually make this skirt from BurdaStyle, and it's one of the easier patterns too! This skirt is one that will be worn often in the warmer months. With its bold blue floral print and the asymmetrical hem, it's sure to garner some compliments. The length is good for those lazy days where you don't want to wear pants but cannot be bothered to shave your legs.

Lace

The decorative scalloped lace hem on this skirt brings delicacy to any outfit. Sometimes lace is categorized as a sensual and fancier piece as it is frequently found on red carpet gowns and intimates. However, this skirt can be casually transformed with a t-shirt tucked in, ankle booties, and a tweed bomber jacket. Throw on a pair of cool aviators, and you're all set for a mission.

Tuesday Thoughts: Outfit Inspiration

The Inspiration

Emma Watson has been my girl-to-teen-to-woman crush for as long as I can remember. From her redhead intelligentsia of a character in the shoes of Hermione Granger (Yes, I am an HP fan) to her philanthropic heart for gender equality as the ambassador for the United Nations, I can go on and on...

However, I do also love her classic style with a chic twist. Recently, she vowed to participate in the green carpet challenge wearing clothing only made from ethical production facilities and designers. Here she is rocking a Christopher Kane dress that I fell in amour with at first sight. Initially, I thought it was a two piece ensemble as the ribbon tie at the waist deceives the eye.

The Interpretation

I've always loved the elegance of maxi skirts and I thought that my interpretation would recreate this look with two pieces. So here I am taking on a spring rendition by pairing a lightly pleated turquoise maxi with a printed sleeveless top - conjoined with a navy ribbon of course! I finished the look with black pumps and a pop of coral on the lips.

Spring Beauty

This past week Sephora had their first VIB event. For most beauty junkies this is one of the best opportunities to save on classic favourites or to explore new spring releases. I ended up talking myself out of over-spending and purchased a conservative total of 3 products. How? I'm not sure either.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation - Always in constant battle with my skin, I was hesitant to introduce another new foundation at first. However, after a great deal of research I decided the lightweight, water-based formula and build-able coverage were intriguing enough for me to try it out.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask - I've shared this lip product in a previous post and still cannot get enough of it. No other lip balm will do when curing dry lips. It's made with 100% natural ingredients and the sweet taste is just a bonus!

Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Cherry Blossom - A co-worker of mine highly suggested this lip line from the Sephora collection, so I had to give on a go. The formula is so creamy when applying and sets to a matte finish, making it have strong staying power. I don't own any other lip product that is similar to this shade and have quickly fallen in love with it.

Of course I have quite a few items I'm currently coveting, but after much contemplation these following items will stay on my wishlist for now. What are your spring beauty picks?

Tuesday Thoughts: Outfit Inspiration

I do enjoy the challenge of styling pieces that apparently short folks should steer clear from. Take wide-leg pants, for instance. They're so comfortable but can be a tricky garment to work with when you're 5'1". Yet it is achievable and can be a very chic look when you pair them with heels and when you tuck in your top.

(This reminds me of a time in grade 5 when my mom made me a pair of floral wide-leg pants. I got made fun of for them, and the jerks who teased me called them "elephant pants". Well, the elephant pants are here and they are hot!)

The Inspiration

Natalie Dormer at the Rolling Stones Exhibitionism Gala
She makes menswear look absolutely chic and sensual. Despite the wide-leg trousers and boxy blazer, the monotonous colour palette help to elongate the body. Of course, choosing black pieces creates a visually slenderizing effect.

The Interpretation

This is an outfit you can take from day to night. Choosing softly draping trousers adds fluidity to create that elegant look. I'm opting for a more fitted blazer instead so as not to appear as though I'm wearing clothes that are too big for me. Because the pants are loose, tuck in your top to elongate your legs. This white t-shirt tones it down a notch, but it still speaks business. And when you're this petite heels are a non-negotiable.

Lipstick Lookbook

Lipstick is a simple way to elevate your look whether it is to get through the daily work grind or dolling up for a special occasion. If a vibrant colour is something that intimidates you try going for a neutral or sheer lip colour, and then build your way towards a more ferocious hue. Below, we're highlighting our love for the Canadian, Bite Beauty, and their different collections.

Dramatic

Lipstick: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Black Truffle
Occasion: When I'm taking over the world or wanting to experiment with a fiercer look.
Tip: Especially with high-contrast colours, it is imperative you exfoliate your lips to minimize the visibility of cracks. It only takes about 30 seconds, and it will improve the application and wear.

Natural

Lipstick: Bite Beauty BB Lipstick in Suede
Occasion: Whether it's your everyday natural or the office room pout, this is a suede win that's profesh and lovable.
Tip: Balm your lips with a light lip chap before applying for an extra smooth coverage. Don't be afraid to layer on a swoosh or two as this colour builds with application.

Bright

Lipstick: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Palomino
Occasion: With some sass on a girl's day out, this look is all about making a statement with your lipstick.
Tip: The rest of your make up should be more subtle and adorn a simple palette in your outfit to avoid clashing of too much colour

Don't be afraid to rock a bold lip the next time you get ready!

Tuesday Thoughts: Outfit Inspiration

This month we bring to you outfits inspired by a particular look. With an endless variety of subjects to draw influence from, this is an exciting way to change up your style! But don't get too caught up with replicating something. Remember, the purpose is to be inspired and not to imitate!

Since my style is often heavily influenced by pop culture, I decided to have a little fun with this one. I chose the ever-so-famous Justin Bieber. (Before you jump to conclusions, no I am not a Belieber.) His typical look mostly comprises of low crotch jeans, layered over-sized tops, and skate shoes. Although I wear the pieces from this outfit quite often, it was interesting styling them differently to emulate a "skaterboi" persona.
